Wild Goose Chase October 1, 2017

Welcome to “The Wild Goose Chase!” The Celtic Christians called the Holy Spirit “The Wild Goose” because it was untamed and smarter than any other bird.

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

I sat quietly and listened as the woman told her story. She alternated between yelling, almost screaming, and crying, whispering her frustration and pain. Honestly, I think God kept me silent because anything I said would have NOT been helpful. In fact, as I reflected back the next day, I realized anything I said would have, most likely, been hurtful.

Sometimes we simply need to BE, to be there, “walking” alongside of the person or persons going through the difficult or catastrophic time. Often, what we need is simply to have someone who, in an unconditional manner, be in that moment with us.

I have had similar experiences over the years with many people, male and female, young and old, of many races and ethnic backgrounds. The good news is that God does not care about those demographic issues, those are human constructs. What God cares about is YOU!

So, I want to encourage you to spend time “Being” with people, silently listening, resisting the temptation to try to fix every problem or issue shared with you, and simply sit, listen, pray (silent or aloud) and provide your support to the one in crisis through every possible way.

Ephesians 4:1-3New Revised Standard Version (NRSV): “4 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Please remember, God loves you and so do I, and all you can do about it is love back.

Still In One Peace,

Stephen
