Wild Goose Chase December 24, 2017

Welcome to “The Wild Goose Chase!” The Celtic Christians called the Holy Spirit “The Wild Goose” because it was untamed and smarter than any other bird.

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

I was reflecting back to a morning a few years back when we still owned our house in Edmond. It was getting close to Christmas and I remember one morning as I got ready for work, having to just stop and laugh, chuckle for a bit as I thought about how blessed I am.

My sweet wife is such a "little girl" sometimes. That is, she is so young at heart and full of joy, that she just bursts out in song (as in "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas or other Christmas songs); or hands the drive thru girl at a fast food place a tip larger than her bill for what she ordered (padding the tip with a Merry Christmas! instead of the mundane Happy Holidays.); and she loved to slide down the hallway. (Our hallway was ceramic tile, and she would take off running, then brace and slide on her sock feet.)

So, I was watching her face when she came in to kiss me goodbye before heading out to drive to work. She had this pouty little look, and as she walked off down the hall to the garage and her car, and then headed out to go help her patients heal, I chuckled quietly. She loves her patients and loves helping them recover the use of their bodies, she just does not really like getting up so early in the morning. But she NEVER leaves without kissing me goodbye. And so each and every morning the sun and the Son rise in my heart, as I face a new day knowing that God has given me a very great blessing. I would be a fool to ignore this "light shining in a dark..." world.

2 Peter 1:19 (NIV) says: "The word of the prophets is made more certain. We have that word. You must pay attention to it. It is like a light shining in a dark place. It will shine until the day Jesus comes. Then the Morning Star will rise in your hearts."

So, as you come closer to Christmas morn, may you find the Son in your heart. May you rise to face each new day, finding the Light of God in your life, such that you too can be a "little girl or boy", perhaps sliding on the tile or singing silly songs. May you re-discover the simple joys of life! May Christmas be bright and joyful in your life all year long!

Remember, God loves you and so do I, and there is nothing you can do about it, except love back.

Still In One Peace,

Stephen
